...and i don't even know how to begin to talk about the effect your art has on me!
I struggle in my (self-determined) challenges to find ways to re-define myself...as a black man...a same gender loving, bisexual, queer, sexual, hungry, spiritual being. your art gives me a language/vocabulary i can use in this process of self-definition/exploration...
and in doing so, helps me to deconstruct/challenge notions of what i "think" black art is...ain't...s'pose to be. i speak of your art as it affects me/myself. what you create with your art is larger than the words i can find to describe my experience...(and we both know the power of words)
this is NOT a critique of your work. of course, your work does stimulate the intellect in me, but that is not the voice that speaks through me, at this moment. the voice i hope to find is the one that conveys how (emotion-sexual-spirit) exposed i FEEL when your art looks at me... and how elusive the feelings are
