Saturday, June 29 Hey fellow floggers (cross btw fellow & blogger ....hmmm): This is Leo signing on in LA. have a bunch to say, but first as a matter of introduction: I'm 29, live in Hollywood, CA, am in a LTR with a wonderful guy, am originally from MS and have varied interests (from playing tennis and rockclimbing to cooking healthful gourmet meals....yum).....Secondly, thanks Don, for inviting me to be a fellow blogger with ourblog; this is a wonderful idea!
Blogging seems to be an opportunity for us to check out what's happening with our fellow borthers (and sisters -- er, BTW Don, are women allowed to join ourblog ?), to keep each other informed and as a means of virtual support. In spirit of that 2nd objective, I wanna post a short item on June Jordan's crossing over. Something I've only heard and read (when it actually happened) on the Pacifica radio and website (pacifica.org ).
Poet June Jordan, 65, dies
Acclaimed bisexual author June Jordan died of cancer June 14 in her home in Berkeley, Calif. Jordan's literary output includes eight collections of poetry, five children's books, three plays, four books of political essays, librettos and operas, an autobiography, and 13 years of columns for such publications as The Progressive, The New York Times, and Ms. The 65-year-old African-American activist once wrote, "Bisexuality means I am free and I am as likely to want and to love a woman as I am likely to want and to love a man, and what about that? Isn't that what freedom implies? If you are free, you are not predictable and you are not controllable. To my mind, that is the keenly positive, politicizing significance of bisexual affirmation...to insist upon the equal validity of all of the components of social-sexual complexity."
I look forward to reading and contributing on 'ourblog' .... Leo
rHEio - Speaking of "Six Degrees" I was actually playing Paul in a production when I met dantewoo in Cleveland five years ago. The world is too small.
PRIDE? I have - as most people in this blog do, I'm sure - reservations about PRIDE. Besides the obvious whiteness of the entire affair, the corporate hijacking of the event is also as upsetting(And the Whiteness of gay culture has everything to do with its marketability to the mainstream, you dig?). I remember going two years ago and seeing the Altoids float, and I thought, has it come to this???
This is what I am doing this year. One, attending the "Color Me Queer" party co-hosted by SALGA and ALP at the Chelsea Pier tonite ($15 b4 midnite, $18 after). There will be people of color for days, and lots of fun R&B, Reggae, House, Bhangra, Bollywood, and Hip-hop from two DJs on two dancefloors. It's a party I look forward to every year.
Secondly, I am marching with an organization (FIERCE!) that I am a volunteer for. They are a radical LGBT Youth group that does education and community organizing. They have become most famous of late for taking on the West Village Community Board #2, Sixth Precinct, and all other forces that are seeking to intimidate LGBT youth, POC, and the homeless out of the West Village. I am one of the adult allies, and I amgoing to spend my PRIDE helping youth feel want to make their PRIDE about something other than muscle Queens, and greedy capitalist corporations that want to dig in your pockets by proving how much they love gay people. Welcome Alaric. Glad to see another brotha, especially someone from my old 'hood. Bringing up memories of Hot Bed-Stuy nights. ;-) posted by ronn @ 4:14 AM [ e : w ]
Friday, June 28 Wassup Brothas: I am also a new blogger. Donald invited me to participate in a few days ago and I am excited about interfacing with the brothas. I live in Bed Stuy and I make a living by shaping collegiate minds in the field of English and writing. I am also a university administrator and published author. I'm 36 and still groove to funk and Bootsy Collins. posted by alaric blair @ 8:41 AM [ e : w ]
Kenyon: I belated welcome. Talk about "six degrees of separation." I am *ahem* familiar with dantewoo. His omegabet, a fantastic personal alphabet was awe-inspiring. I've had a crush on Papi woo and believe I was a partial inspiration for him to start a blog.
Donald: I'm not shocked by the shoddy, discriminatory actions directed to us Macheads. Unfortunately, enough of us won't protest/write so it'll be a waste of time to let off steam. But one never knows. Pride this weekend? Hmmm... Probably not, although I'll be in the area for orientation (don't ask) and more than likely, a night sermon, the first in several weeks.
Wassup with that? If you're another Mac user who bought this CD, e-mail they asses and tell them that you deserve to be rewarded, too! posted by Donald Andrew Agarrat @ 6:38 PM [ e : w ]
Kenyon -- Welcome. It's always nice to have a new face around these parts.
HI boys! I am a new blogger to the site. A friend recommended this site to me months ago (www.dantewoo.com), and last night I find out it is a creation of Donald's, also a friend. Me? A Harlemite, sometimes actor, sometimes writer/poet, sometimes community organizer, but mostly a Career Counselor/Employment Specialist. I have finally come to accept that I love all these things and feel no need to pidgeonhole myself. I say all that to say...I'm glad to be a part!!! posted by Kenyon Farrow @ 4:24 AM [ e : w ]
Wednesday, June 26 Hey y'all, wassup? *readies some obvious sarcasm* Ready for Pride this weekend? *grin!*
